Ordering a MOTOTRBO radio for use on a Capacity Max (or DMR Tier 3) system

I had a question last week about ordering MOTOTRBO radios for use on a DMR Tier 3 system. The same would apply if you were ordering MOTOTRBO radios for use on a Capacity Max system.

It's fairly simple:

  1. Order the radio as normal with the required battery; antenna and charger options. etc.
  2. If the radio will be used on a Capacity Max system you can order either HKVN4330A or HKVN4422A. If the radio will be used on another vendors system, or the Capacity Max system will consist of a mixed fleet (i.e. Motorola + Others) you must order HKVN4330A.

HKVN4422A is the Advantage software licence which turns on all the Capacity Max features (all the bells and whistles).
HKVN4330A is the Full software licence which turns on all the Capacity Max features but also allows the radio to be configured for operation on a DMR Tier 3 system from another vendor (so-called Open Radio Mode).

The above software licence are only applicable to EMEA models. You may also be required to complete the Capacity Max certification before being able to order these licences.

It's important to remember that, when a DMR radio from vendor X radio is operating on a Tier 3 system from vendor Y, that only the features defined in the DMR Association IOP test (currently V1.0) are gauranteed to work - all other features are up to the individual vendors and the concept of YMMV applies.
